Our dear friend Brannon survived Hurricane season in St. Croix by the skin of his teeth... almost literally!
After Irma hit, they have been without electricity and then Maria showed up. Everyone knows from the news, it was UGLY. His household hunkered down for 6 hours thinking at any minute they could lose it all. The horrific stories are still unfolding from the small island. We are only able to speak to Brannon at certain times every day when he can leave and find a hot spot to call. They are under strict curfew guidelines.
No one talks about how looting becomes the main source of survival when catastrophes happen in small island communities. After AT&T installed a generator for people to contact loved ones, it was quickly stolen in the night. Stores have been pillaged and robbed of most supplies. Gas lines are hours long-- if they even have any. Brannon is using a water hose to boil water for drinking and cooking -- mostly Ramen noodles.
They have a generator, but can only use it certain hours of the day. They are being told it could be six months before they are with power again.
We are so fortunate that Brannon and Bentley are okay, but they need our help. It's going to be a long road. We are starting a gofundme for them for everyday things that we take for granted, such as:
-Batteries
-Gas
-Food supplies
-Pet care/food
-Transportation
We all know Brannon has always been the first to lend a helping hand in times of need. Anything helps, and we will keep updates coming along as they re-build their lives. We hope it can return to paradise soon!
