Thank you so much for visiting my GoFundMe page. My Name is Bevon King, the first Jamaican entrepreneur to graduate from Singularity University at NASA Ames, and recently I was admitted to the highly competitive and prestigious MIT Innovation & Entrepreneurship Bootcamp in Brisbane, Australia. But firstly, due to the competitive nature of the MIT course, should I not financially clear by January 10, 2018, I will be forced to decline or defer, jeopardizing my chances at returning to the country to complete this invaluable certification. Most significantly, missing this opportunity prevents me from transitioning from this Course, to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Massachusetts. This is why my effort to raise is critical and timely!
I humbly ask for your assistance, and reassure you - that your monetary gift will not go in vain. Right now I'm working very hard to gather everything that I need by working, fundraising, networking with the support of my peers, but I am currently in need of financial support. If you can just help me get my foot in the door, with God’s help I know I can figure out the rest. The most important fee is the deposit required to participate, which is US $2000 to be paid by January 10, 2018. This secures my place in the class. ANY contribution beyond that is a HUGE bonus that would help me to focus on my work and my studies. Here is a breakdown of the biggest costs:
US $2000 : MINIMUM tuition deposit to enroll (to be paid by January 10, 2018)
US $4000: Remaining tuition fee
US $600: Airfare from Shanghai, China to Brisbane, Australia
US $6600 : TOTAL
I am a native of Spanish Town, Jamaica where I studied at Willowdene High School, Ardenne High School, and eventually Northern Caribbean University where my entrepreneurial journey began. Many persons tried to discourage me from starting my own business in Jamaica. And on some days it would work, and I would feel really low. I don’t have rich parents, but they taught me discipline, manners, and the value of hard work and trusting God. And with their lessons, plus a network of mentors and friends I was eventually featured in the Jamaica Observer, one of two national papers.

I started receiving emails and phone calls from aspiring entrepreneurs of all ages, and I realized I needed to be doing more to inspire and motivate them. Role models are important – and sometimes Bills Gates and Elon Musk are just too far removed to be relatable. I seized the opportunity to be a panelist at Hustle Summit Jamaica to speak directly to these future leaders, and help them avoid self-doubt and other mistakes I made. It was one of the proudest moments of my life, and I knew instantly that I had to keep growing, because the more I learn the more I can contribute to my community.

I went on to represent Jamaica and the Caribbean Region at Singularity University's prestigious Global Solutions Program at the NASA's Ames Campus - endorsed by Richard Branson and Larry Page. It is extremely competitive with over 3000 applications from scholars, scientist, political leaders and entrepreneurs, and only 90 were selected from 47 countries around the world. I received a full scholarship to attend after my company was selected from the Caribbean region as having the greatest potential for global impact in ten years.
The Global Solutions Program (GSP) was an immersive, residential experience at the NASA Research Park in Mountain View, CA. GSP brings together dreamers and inspired solvers with unique skill sets, experiences, and passions, and empowers them to develop moonshot innovations addressing humanity’s grand challenges. Attending GSP provided a remarkable opportunity to learn about technologies and their broader societal implications; how to become a global innovator and thought leader; and build a strong, diverse and sustainable communities.

Singularity University is important because it is a catalyst for global change, that helps participants leverage rapidly accelerating technologies—including artificial intelligence, nanotechnology, robotics, and digital biology—in innovative ways to unlock solutions that can positively impact billions of lives. There was a time when I didn't think studying abroad was possible, but when my brothers and sisters in Jamaica see what can be achieved with faith and hard work they will know that it is possible - and I can be there to help them achieve it too.
During GSP I met three amazing people, and together we are uniquely qualified to address the overwhelming catastrophe of illnesses and fatalities caused by global air pollution. We’re making clean air affordable and accessible to all through the use of a subscription model that reduces economic barriers and uses the best air filtration technology. We are also developing earth observational satellites to track pollution from Space. This work requires me to live and work in Shanghai, China for the next 12-18 months, and I will be moving to Shanghai on December 26 2017 up until the time of the MIT Bootcamp.
The MIT Innovation & Entrepreneurship Bootcamp in Brisbane, Australia runs from February 10-18, 2018! From a pool of over 1000 applications only 120 are chosen. I was selected from an outstanding pool of applicants based on the selection criteria: capacity for calculated risk, open and critical thinking, initiative with follow-through, and focus on community. It's the type of education that combines rigorous academic study with the excitement of discovery, support and intellectual stimulation in an intense immersive experience with MIT faculty, students, mentors and alumni from around the world. MIT’s mission is to educate students in science and technology to best prepare them to solve the world’s greatest challenges.
