Good Day everyone,
I am 22 years old Ayana Findlay and I am writing a brief summary to let persons know how and when my illness, Kidney Failure started. It was in 2007, I became ill. My mother noticed my feet were swollen, when I went to the doctor, he said I had nephritic syndrome (a condition where protein leaks out of the kidneys).

In 2010, my illness advanced to End Stage Renal failure. I was rushed to Trinidad and the doctors put in a temporary catheter in me so I could clean my blood urgently. When I got a little better I came back to St. Vincent to do the Peritoneal Dialysis (PD), because there was no hemo-dialysis in SVG at the time. I switched from PD to Hemo-dialysis in 2012 because the PD was not effective anymore and Health Solutions Inc., a dialysis centre, opened in SVG. I have been doing dialysis at this facility ever since.

My doctor recommended that I try to get a transplant soon. My mother said she is more than willing to give me her kidney. I have had a lot of infections and surgeries since I became sick. I get a lot of dizzy spells, shortness of breath, black outs, headaches, boils, itching, racing of the heart, weakness, joint pains, unclear vision, e.t.c. I was diagnosed with high blood pressure when I got ill but recently I have been getting a lot of very low pressure after dialysis.

The year of 2013 was a very hard year for me, I had 3 different surgeries done Trinidad at different times of the year. I had surgery done to my chest, arm and stomach. These were very painful and exhausting, because they were done while I was in a conscious state (awake during all surgeries). Keeping up with the payments of $1,000 a week for dialysis last year was very hard for my family but God sent help when it was needed. I stayed in the hospital on numerous occasions for all kinds of problems, for example; fluids in my lungs (causing shortness of breath) and infections.

Although I went through so much pain last year, I suffered more mentally. Most persons do not understand the physical and financial strain this sickness have on persons in my family, but this is what affects me most. I try my best always to put the painful moments behind me, but seeing my dad struggling everyday on a sick foot and crying out for pain and cannot rest because of my conditions, that hurts me more than any pain. All in all, anything is possible with God, that’s what I believe. I am happy to be alive by God’s grace, so I am not focussing on all the negativities of the past.

I really would like to get a transplant and get better so I could start studying again. I really want to be an accountant and I would really like to go to a university and finish my studies. I thank God for where I am today, though - things were much worse. I was often not able to walk, eat or do anything for myself. So I consider myself blessed. I am appealing to everyone to help me survive by donating. My family and I really would appreciate your help. I want to thank those who have already donated and continue to help whether in prayers or financially. I am anxious to know what the future holds for me.
Thanks in Advance.
Love Always,
Ayana Findlay
