Help a Stranger Named Paul

Two weeks ago, I met a man named Paul, just outside of my boxing gym in 19th and NW Miami Court. He needed gas for his stranded vehicle, or it was going to be towed/impounded. Paul went on to explain that Hurricane Irma had shut down the restaurant he works at - D'Vine by 9701 at 9125 NW 22nd Avenue - and that he hadn't been able to earn money for close to three weeks.

All of his bills were behind and he was obviously distraught. He was still in his restaurant uniform from the night before trying to find a way home.

I didn't give Paul enough gas to get home; I gave him $100. He fell into my arms and sobbed, thanked me, and was adamant that I take a picture of his ID so I'd know he was good to one day pay me back. I told him no chance, but that he could call me if something came up.

Unfortunately, it did. By the time he got back to his car, it had already been towed/impounded. My $100 was a nice bump, but he now owed the impound fee and several hundred more on a now-delinquent car payment.

Paul is hurting. He needs help. I know a lot of people were affected by the hurricane, but Paul is someone I met whose story broke my heart. I am doing more to help him get on his feet, but he'll need more.

If it's on your heart to help Paul, please drop in a few bucks. 100% of what comes in here is going right to him.
