✈ Why I am going to Sri Lanka
The reason for my quest to Sri Lanka in 2019 is that I have chosen to join SLV. Global
as a volunteer in one of their mental health placements
. These are aimed at promoting positive mental health and supporting local initiatives and institutions in the communities where there are high demands for mental health care professionals.
Joining SLV.Global for my foundation placement
will hugely benefit me by giving me experience in a professional setting where I can work with the subject that I am most committed to and enrich my knowledge in all areas of life through the new and cross-cultural environment I will be in during my time there.⌛ 60% of my time
will be spent on training and working with people in local projects, which include psychiatric facilities and schools where we will be helping with recovery and different forms of therapy.
⏳ 40% of my time
will be spent on teaching English for development which takes place in schools or vocational training institutes where the purpose is to encourage people in their professional and educational development.
What it means to me
Most people have experienced struggles with mental health, whether with themselves or someone they are close to and often it can be hard to find help. Ever since I noticed this it has been a dream of mine to help people improve their well-being and make mental healthcare services more accessible to everyone
. This placement is a perfect opportunity for me to do that whilst also feeding my passion for travelling and exploring the world
What I will be using the money for
My goal of £1000 is to go towards my flight (estimate £550), my visa (estimate £50), insurance (estimate £150) and the cost of accommodation, food and transport for the weekends
. All of which are not included in the placement acceptance fee of £250 and placement fee of £1300 which I plan to pay with my own savings.
All my trip has to be payed by the 25th February 2019
and I plan to be travelling for my placement on the 22nd April 2019
. Additionally, this placement can take either 4 or 8 weeks and although I have confirmed my application for 4 weeks it may be possible that this will change, depending on timing for my gap year plans and university start date. This means I would have to pay an extra £400 and £45 changing fee for a longer placement
. Even the smallest of donations are very welcome
and will be used only for the costs mentioned. Donating would really help as this is a very important opportunity for me and for changing the views on mental health around the world. ✔️ The benefits of SLV.Global's work in Sri Lanka
