Help Aaron Gain His Independence

Aaron is a young 20-year-old man, car fanatic and my nephew, who could only dream of getting his license and first car. Sadly, Aaron was born with Cerebral Palsy which places him at a disadvantage to other young men who can easily get their licences in comparison.

Luckily, Aaron has the chance to drive but it’s not as simple as it seems. Aaron must buy a car that is less than 3 years old and with no more than 45,000 kilometres. This car will need to have $6000 worth of modifications to adapt to his needs. Then once this is all achieved he will need specific kind of driving lessons to learn how to drive the modified car. All to be done before getting his license.

Aaron could have had his provisional license when he was 17 years old and would now have his full licence as he is 20. Watching all his friends and now his younger brother getting their licenses and cars before him left Aaron feeling hopeless and is now finding it hard to keep his spirits up. 

For most young men and women getting a first car and license is a form of independence and freedom allowing them to go see friends, family and do other activities on their own time this includes travelling to and from work. With parents that have jobs of their own and buses not always safe or readily available, it too makes it difficult for Aaron to find a job and work appropriate hours within the week. Having a car would stop this and allow him to travel to and from work at whatever time possible and necessary.

This is all quite a lot to ask of a young man who loves cars and only gets to watch them drive by rather than getting behind the wheel of one, so I told my nephew I will help the best I can. So, I hope you could please help too.
