Help Roo

Hi my name is Charity and my puppy is Roo. Before Roo there was Nikki.

On June 28, 2014 at 12:05pm I lost my heart and soul, Nikki. She was 15 1/2 years old. She was having some medical problems so I took her to the emergency vet and found out she had a mass on her pancreas. The vet did a very complicated surgery that she did not recover from and the next day I made the agonizing decision to end her suffering. It broke me. I had carried her out of the pet store at 10 weeks old and she was my first dog as an adult. She was a very special girl and made an impact on everyone she met. After losing her, I felt like I had nothing. Except a $3600 vet bill.

In July I adopted a puppy, Roo,  from a local animal rescue. I thought it would help me get over my loss of Nikki. And she has definately kept me busy!! ;) I forgot what it was like to have a puppy! While there have been many challenging times, I have thoroughly enjoyed having her. She is a great puppy. She loves everyone and wants to say hi to everyone. She plays well with other dogs and gets along with everyone. Roo is a very sweet and happy puppy. You would never know she is sick.

I was having difficulty potty training her and then noticed she was having issues when urinating. So off to the vet we went. She was diagnosed with a urinary tract infection. She was also urinating in her sleep and she was given an incontenece medicine. The UTI's continued. They would return every few weeks after she would finish a round of medicine. After several months of tests and medicine, I took her to an internal specialist vet. She had more tests done and was finally diagnosed with an Ectopic Ureter. This means the tubes that go from the kidneys to the bladder, one of her tubes goes into her uterus. The only option is surgery.

There are two options for surgery. One is the original surgery where they open her up and try to re-route the tube to her bladder. The other option is a laser procedure. This procedure has much better long term results and a much shorter recovery time. The only problem is that we live in Alaska and there is no laser machine here and no one does the procedure.

I am trying to raise the money to pay off the current vet bills and for Roo and I to travel to University of California Davis to have the laser procedure done. Roo's vet bills to this time have accumulated to more than $3000 and I am anticipating they will continue as her kidney's appeared to the vet to be "older" than Roo. This could clear up after the surgery when they are not under so much stress from constantinfections or she could develop kidney disease. I'm praying that they will clear up.

This is difficult for me to ask for these funds but I need my puppy. I can not lose her after losing Nikki. Financially, I am using a snorkle to breath. I have had three major surgeries in the last 2 years, including emergency gallbladder surgery in August, and with my medical bills on top of these vet bills, I am sinking fast.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Any funds I recieve will first go to getting Roo surgery, which is scheduled for February 3. Anything else will go to the vet bills.

I humbly and sincerely thank you.
