Help Malena get to Thailand

Dear family, friends & business colleagues,

                As a senior at Central Washington University majoring in environmental policy I am making a month-long trip during the summer of 2018 to the beautiful countries of Thailand and Laos. I will be traveling with a volunteer program that goes by the acronym GIVE aka Growth International Volunteer Excursions. They are passionate about sustainable initiatives that have long-lasting impacts on communities in these developing nations, so I’m very excited.  

During my time in southeast Asia I will be learning about real world issues.

·         Species extinction

·         Deforestation

·         Organic farming

·         Global warming

A real-time example Thailand struggles with greatly is habitat loss due to commercial logging and agriculture. Elephants, in particular, have suffered greatly, going from over 100,000 individuals a century ago to now only an estimated 2,000 elephants in the wild!! We will be aiding the restoration of the elephant species by performing a reforestation project and basic health checks for these elephants!

Other concepts we will be learning about include organic farming, eco-construction and wildlife management.
