My name is Karen Tiburcio and I am going to be a sophomore at Moody Bible Institute! I was born and raised in Jarabacoa, Dominican Republic, and have had the amazing opportunity to study abroad! Words cannot express how crazy it is to be living this dream. Not many Dominican students get to pursue a career at an international school and I have been blessed with this amazing opportunity. I thank God who has brought me this far, and to all the people that prayed, encouraged, helped me through the application process, and supported me financially this past year. I am here because of all of you who believed in me!
This past year was crazy! I have had to learn to adapt to a new culture, a new job, working in a local ministry and in between all of that, take very challenging classes. I have not mastered all these things, but by the mercy of God, I have survived my first my first year in college! I have made new friends, and connected with a new church. I also had the chance to tutor hispanic middle school kids in La villita. I have been so blessed by these children and have had the opportunity to share Christ with them on a weekly basis. Although this past year was great, it was also an extremely difficult time for me because I had to deal with the unexpected loss of my mother. The Lord has been incredibly faithful and gave me the strength to finish off the year despite all the things that are going on back home. I continue to find stregnth and refuge in Him as I am living far away from family during these hard times. even though is it difficult to be far away from my loved ones, I have prayed and prayed and prayed and asked the Lord if going back home would be the best for me at this time, but He continues to remind me that He has called me here and even if circumstances have been altered, His plan remains the same.
As some of you may know, Moody is a tuiton free school which means that students that are admitted, do not pay tuiton. However, we do have to pay housing, meal plans and a bunch of other fees. For me, this fall semester 2017 is a total of $7,162 USD. I will leave a list of the fees that make up this amount:
Housing Semester $2,900
Required Heatlth Insurance $827
Meal Plan- 20/meals/ week- $2190
Campus Network Fee
(on campus only) $100.00
Facilities Fee $280.00
Insurance Handling Fee $ 20.00
Student Activity Fee $445.00
Technology Fee $210.00
Ventra U-Pass $140.00
Payment Plan Enrollment Fee $50
With that said, here are three ways in which you can help me:
Through finances: Donating to help me reach my goal and be able to attend Moody this fall. :)
Through prayer: Please keep me in your prayers! Pray for this time of transition in my life and that God guides me through all along. Pray for strength and perseverance as I begin a new year. Pray for strength as balancing school life and dealing with the loss of a loved one. Pray that finances come through during my time at Moody.
