Chris Cooke's College tuition

Donation protected
Christopher Cooke resides with his mother and grandmother in Wilmington Delaware. Chris is a graduate of Cab Calloway School of the Arts, majoring in vocal music. He is also an Eagle Scout and a performer in Delaware All State Theater. This fall, he is going to be a sophomore majoring in theater at Arcadia University.

Chris’ summer was going normally, until his mother, Julie Cooke, was taken to the emergency room with severe neck pain. It turned out that the cause of the pain was three metastasized tumors from a previously treated breast cancer. Unfortunately, the tumors also had spread down to the spine. After more than a month at the hospital, Julie is still undergoing radiation treatment and hormone therapy. Chris’ ninety year old Alzheimer stricken grandmother Grace remains at home. In the absence of Julie, Chris is the only caregiver for his grandmother, balancing between jobs, home and the hospital.

The purpose of this campaign is to allow Chris to continue his higher education at Arcadia university without requiring him to go into additional debt. Chris is presently doing his best to support himself and his family, working two jobs off campus on weekends: as a DJ and an entertainer for children’s parties. On weekdays on campus, Chris works at the IT department and as a tour guide. This needs to be balanced with his classes, theater performances and hosting his university radio show. The university financial aid package is not sufficient to cover tuition, room and board entirely. Not to mention personal expenses. Chris is seeking funding for his university bill, both last year’s overdue payments, which need to be made as soon as possible and this year’s upcoming payments.

Chris has already taken out federal loans to the maximum allowed limits. His mother tried to cosign with him on federal plus loans, but she was not approved and that’s where the problems begin. Chris talked to his extended family, but was unable to find a cosigner for a loan. He has gone to federal credit unions, both in person and online. No one will give him a loan without a cosigner. His boss stepped in to act as a cosigner, but the loan was also rejected. This is why we are establishing this campaign as a last resort to find money for Chris’ education.

In order to kickstart this campaign and support Chris, my family will be donating $1000 to the cause. We hope everybody will show solidarity with Chris and contribute to help him remain in college.
