Help Yoda Heal After Being Ran Over by a Truck
Dear friends, family, and compassionate strangers,
We're reaching out on behalf of our dear friend Katie Delaney and her beloved dog, Yoda — also affectionately known as Mr. Boots — who recently suffered a traumatic injury after being ran over by a truck.
The impact left Yoda with severe injuries to his face and head. Bleeding profusely and in visible shock, he was rushed to the emergency vet, where initial assessments revealed a broken jaw. It was later confirmed that both his upper and lower jaws had been fractured and required wiring to stabilize them. He also sustained significant trauma to his head — with two black eyes and ongoing nosebleeds — but, by some miracle, he did not suffer any internal organ damage or a ruptured diaphragm.
Yoda’s road to recovery will be long and painful. He won’t be able to chew or eat solid food for weeks. He is now on a strict soft-food diet and will require months of care, pain medication, and follow-up visits to ensure proper healing. His vet anticipates at least 12 weeks for his jaw to begin to mend, but the emotional and physical toll of this experience will linger longer.
Katie has been by his side every step of the way — holding him, cleaning him, comforting him, and doing everything she can to help him feel safe and loved again. Despite his pain, Yoda’s sweet spirit continues to shine through. Even as they raced to the vet, he seemed more worried about Katie than himself.
The cost of emergency surgery, medications, and ongoing treatment is quickly adding up, and while Katie has never been one to ask for help, this moment calls for community. She will be vending at the local Pioneer Days festival to raise what she can, with Yoda resting beside her in the shade, but it won’t be enough to cover what’s needed for his full recovery.
This GoFundMe has been set up to support Yoda’s healing — to help cover the cost of his surgery, vet visits, pain relief, and the care he’ll need to get through the next few months. If you are able to donate, even a small amount, it will make a huge difference.
