<div>In July 2025, I got the terrifying news that my mom, Elena, was in the hospital and had an unexpected and life-altering brain tumor. After a whirlwind of events, she underwent surgery and the results of the tumor biopsy returned as something we were hoping not to hear... Grade 4 Glioblastoma. One of the most rare and aggressive types of brain cancer.

<div>After returning home from surgery, my mom faced another series of setbacks... complications and infections from the surgery itself. Days turned into weeks of daily struggles and heart-breaking challenges for mom and our family. After more than a month of draining hospitalizations, she finally started the standard of care of radiation and chemotherapy, an aggressive set of treatments which according to research and studies doesn't have the best results in being the cure for glioblastomas. Many patients get recurrence after finishing standard treatments because of the aggressive nature of this type of cancer.

<div>But there is hope out there - in the form of new technologies and treatments that show more promise than what’s offered with the standard treatments here in the U.S. These new treatments are only found in Europe, however, and unfortunately not covered by insurance. The cost for treatments over the course of about a year: $300,000-$400,000+ out of pocket, a price no one can bear alone. How do you put a price on a life?

<div>If you've been lucky enough to get to know my mom, you already love her! If you don't know her - here's a brief intro. Elena is a powerhouse, who sacrificed her life to raise her kids as a single mom on her own in a strange land as an immigrant. She’s always been a warrior and a fighter, who has overcome so much with her resilience. A hard working, successful business woman and a brilliant scientist who inspires all who meet her. A woman of faith, she spent over 25 years doing charitable work helping those in need, with a special focus on single moms and children. She is truly a bright light and a ray of sunshine who brings joy to all and makes the world a better place just by being in it!
