On Monday Nov. 11th, Xander ingested a hair oil that got in his eyes, nose and mouth. Within 5 minutes, as I was trying to clean/suction his airways, Mia knew to call 911. While pleading for the healing touch of Jesus, help arrived, and our strong boy already had labored breathing and was going limp. He was taken by ambulance to the Pediatric ER at the first hospital, where they had to intubate him and contact poison control. After multiple tedious hours, the doctors, not having all the needed to treat him, decided to get him transported to the PICU at Texas Children’s Hospital in downtown Houston. He was transported by paramedics and admitted that night around 8pm.
Today Xander is being treated for respiratory and gastric trauma from hydrocarbons, which has come with many ups and down as the toxins have worked through each system in his little body. He is also battling rhino virus and a bacterial infection, which have compounded with the injury to his lungs.
Since he’s been here, he’s had three small procedures, X-rays, labs, multiple IVs, continual sedation and many forms of respiratory therapy everyday. We have been sleeping in the hospital next to Xander while Aria is at home with her grandparents.
Thankfully Lord is paving a way to recovery, and he is healing our baby step by step. Praise his blessed name!
Our little family does have some financial needs this sudden hospitalization, as has not allowed Max to work (he flew back from working in Seattle the day of incident) and has required us to drive back and forth from our home about an hour away.
We have some bills that we are falling behind on with this disruption to work and income. We are grateful any way you feel led to help.
Thank you to all who have prayed, we cannot express the impact of God’s presence in this hospital room with us and the many ways we’ve witnessed your intercession move the mountains Xander has had to overcome. The word that continues to wash us anew is:
2Peter 3:8
But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
We are so blessed that Xander is getting the care he needs at one of the best hospitals in the country, and that God placed us in the PICU for such a time as this. We continue to share the testimony of God’s faithfulness in moving us to Texas to everyone who will listen.
Hoping to hold our bouncing baby boy miraculously soon.
