Help WSU family in Houston rebuild

Many of you knew the Gooden-Young family when they lived in Pullman. Phyllis, Victoria-Pearl (husband, Charles, and infant son, Quanah), and Alex now live in Houston, Texas and have lost nearly everything due to the flooding. All family members have been evacuated and are safe at this time. Please join us in providing financial support to help them rebuild from the damage caused by Hurricane Harvey.

Victoria-Pearl and her husband along with the rest of the family recently welcomed a beautiful baby boy into the world. All of his clothing, toys, and baby gear will need to be replaced in addition to all home furnishings. To ensure the baby's health, the family will be unable to return to their home until all water and mold damage is resolved.

I, Sarah Johnson (Snohomish, WA), along with my mother, Jane Lear, want to help this family because they are part of our family. Victoria-Pearl and Alex are my parent's (Jane and Erich's) godchildren. I cared for both kids at the daycare in Pullman when I was in high school. Use of donated funds will be at the discretion of the family and will help them replace items lost in the disaster and remake their family home.

This family contributed so much to the Pullman and WSU community. Let's give some love and support back during this great time of need. Please give what you can and share this campaign far and wide. Thank you!

This GoFundMe was created with permission from the family.

Another Update:

After the levee began flooding over and the reservoirs were released, water began flooding our home. My mother and our two dogs were rescued Tuesday morning after chest high water flooded out the first floor of our home. My mom worked diligently to move possessions that weren't already soaked up to the second floor of our home before leaving.

None of my family have seen the house since my mother was forced to leave it. Assuming the water rose any higher than it already was, Chuck and I lost almost everything we owned and can't return back to the house with our son until everything is restored in our room due to the possibility of mold.

For those who have not paid attention to #hurricaneharvey, let this post be a wake up call. Let it become personal for you. There is no more of a helpless feeling than seeing your city literally underwater on television and you can't go back because there isn't a way in or out that doesn't involve taking a boat. My family is lucky. We have our lives, can replace material items, and repair our home. There are families down here who have lost their entire home, who have no where to go, who can't get anywhere because their vehicle is no longer drivable, who can no longer work because their place of employment was destroyed to water or wind damage, and who have lost their loved ones. This disaster is very real and it affected millions of people.

Please donate to organizations you trust and track where your money is being used. If you know a family in need, give to them directly. There is a lot of good going on down here, and that helps heal all the bad that rushed into southeast Texas and changed the lives of so many, so quickly.
