Help women's support groups in rural Tajikistan

Donation protected

Since 2017 Tajikistan has been swept by a wave of widespread women suicide. Reports say domestic violence victims would more often commit suicide than seek help.

In order to overturn this tendency local women in remote rural villages often organise in self-help groups to support women in need that have nowhere to turn to.

Last year International Partnership for Human Rights  travelled to Tajikistan and visited five local women's support groups. We filmed short videos to share individual stories of women helping each other to cope with trauma and start a new life free from domestic violence.

This fundraising will improve the position of Tajik women by supporting the groups' awareness-raising work, their documentation of domestic violence cases and the legal representation they provide to women (in their fight for alimony, for example).

Women support groups also run small businesses such as sewing ateliers and bakeries. Through this, former domestic violence victims can earn a small income and no longer depend on their abusive partners. In times of Covid-19 any support is precious!

Below are stories of strong women who inspired us to create this fundraising and start a campaign #НЕТЕРПИНАСИЛИЕ in support of victims of domestic violence and women's self-help groups in Tajikistan.

Thank you very much/Tašakkuri ziëd!
