Moms Story vs Dads Story!!
Pregnancy for me was going by pretty effortless. I was in perfect health and with each doctors visit and ultrasound I was assured this would be one healthy active baby! September 13th I woke up just like every other day and walked to get some exercise and breakfast. I came home ate showered and laid down to relax. I felt a tight pain in my stomach almost like my bladder was full. I went to the bathroom expecting to release my bladder but instead I got about 500ml (1/2 iv bag) of nothing but blood! I immediately called the ambulance and when he was saw how much blood I had lost they rushed me to legacy Emanuel hospital. I went right into the labor and delivery wing where the nurse had me sit down to change! The moment I stood up more blood came out about another 500mls. Her eyes got really big and she called in about 7 different doctors all specializing in something different. With in ten minutes of being there I was hooked up to 4 different ivs (pumping in steroids), an ultra sound (checking babies heart rate and oxygen levels) someone testing my blood levels and blood type, and an anesthesiologist just in case! They discovered I had something called preeclampsia!! Preeclampsia is a rare condition where someone's blood levels raise so high it causes all the blood vessels that are connecting the placenta and the uterus to erupt and separate! I lost 2265 mil of blood (equivalent to 3 full iv bags) in total. They were forced to prep me for surgery, I was going to have an emergency c section. They expressed that if we did not come at the moment we did neither one of us would have made it! To lose almost half the amount of blood in your body is a scary situation for anyone but when you have a baby relying on your health and well being to survive it's traumatic! They were able to get her out of me safely unfortunately I was passed out due to the blood loss but her dad was able to go in the room and see her. At first she was non responsive, she wasn't crying or even breathing on her own. After they drained her lungs and cleaned her passage ways she let out a small cry which brought light and relief back into the room! Our baby Tru Thompson was born Wed September 13th at 9:07 pm. She was born at 3lbs and will be living in the nicu for 6-8 weeks. She will be attached to feeding tubes, oxygen, and ivs to ensure her development continues and she does not suffer from any long term complications. One of the scariest things happened to me, I got a phone call the other day at about 5:20 pm while I was at my moms helping her with stuff, and my girl calls me crying. She's saying nothing but blood is shooting out of her. She calls the midwife, they tell her not to flush the toilet and that an ambulance is on the way. So I smash to Legacy Emanuel and got there at the same time she did. I walk into the room and there's about 7 different doctors coming in and out and all I kept thinking was we might be losing our baby. They ran a lot of tests and found out that the placenta some how detached from the uterus. one of the Dr's finally says it's time and the best thing to do right now is have an emergency C section and deliver the baby because her heart beat was dropping to fast. They told us had a Chrissy waited 20 minutes longer both her and Tru could have died. Preeclampsia is very serious and causes the blood vessels to inflate so much they erupt. The blood vessels are what hold the placenta to the uterus walls and now they were all detaching. She lost what they describe as 3 full iv bags of blood. I tried to keep her calm and I stayed with her through everything even through the surgery. They did the procedure and the Drs said she came out fighting! Chrissy did great I couldn't be more proud of her! They finally let me go back and see our baby, but she wasn't moving... I didn't hear any cries any sounds, any breathing. Finally after a few minutes she took her first gasp for air and it brought the happiness back in the room. She was born September 13th, 2017 and 9:07 pm, unexpected unprepared and unsure. Tru has to live with Tubes in her nose to help her breathe, a feeding tube in her mouth to help her digest and an iv in her foot to keep fluids flowing! she has to stay in the NICU for the next 6 weeks and we plan to be right by her side every step of the way.
