Friday January 28th our family suffered from a tragic carbon monoxide accident and our lives will never be the same. My mom and sister were found unconscious that morning by a god sent family friend. Unfortunately by the time he had gotten there we had already lost my step-dad Dave (Danyckas father) to the fumes. He did not go out without a fight, he fought to try to save himself and his family. He was our back bone, the best & only father figure we ever had. He left a legacy that was cut short way too soon. We will update when we have more information for his memorial.
After my mom (Nicole) & sister (Danycka) were found they were put on life support at Hurley. Danycka was life flighted to Grand Rapids & Nicole was transported by EMS. Spectrum Butterworth hospital was the only hospital that had the Hyperbaric Chambers, which is an oxygen therapy that absorbs and replaces the carbon monoxide in your blood & gives you three times the amount of oxygen your body usually gets for 100 minutes. Nicole & Danycka went through the treatment 3 times. Danycka was put on a by-pap machine to help her breath after she woke up from being intubated. Then was later put on a nasal oxygen cannula that helped her breath as she was sleeping. By Sunday they both were breathing on their own and were able to be discharged Monday.
There is still a long road to recovery and there’s no “normal” after this. I’ve had many people asking me if there’s anything they can do to let them know, all I can ask for is to please pray for us. We will take all of them we can get. If you do donate know how much we appreciate the support during the hardest time in all of our lives.
