On March 26th 2020, Rhoda Frances Nathan passed away due to complications from diabetes.
Everyone knew Rhoda from her years of teaching in Milwaukee Public Schools and also from her work in the North Shore Presbyterian Church. She was a Sunday school teacher, an English teacher, a Theater teacher; she directed plays, she brought students out of their shells, and she always saw the best in anyone even when they didn't see that in themselves. Rhoda was a mentor to many, and a teacher and friend to all.
Rhoda Nathan taught at Gilmore Middle School (Racine), Milwaukee High School of the Arts, Custer High School (before it became Obama), Marshall Montessori, and Rufus King. When the news spread of her passing, students and teachers from generations poured in with their support and love.
I'm Rhoda's daughter, Stella. I'm blown away by all of the people my mom actually knew and all the lives she touched. I have friends who said she was their teacher and there are people who still fondly remember her even if it's been 20 years since she last taught them. My mom left an incredible impact and legacy.
I've had many people reaching out to offer finical support. Thankfully I am still getting paid, but I know many are not with the quarantine which is why I struggled to take people up on their offer. However costs are piling up for things like cremation, an Urn, death certificate papers, lawyer fees, and other loose ends, and miscellaneous costs that people don't think about when a loved one dies. As most of you know it was just my mom and I so the burden is quite heavy. I've already had so much support and I'm truly grateful.
