Hevyn Allen was diagnosed with a rare type of breast cancer three years ago. It was treated surgically with a mastectomy and since that time she has consistently received a clean health report, until recently.
A few weeks ago, she began having intense pain and couldn’t walk or leave the bed. She was brought to the ER for a third time this past week because a loss of bladder control on top of the excruciating pain elevated everyone's concern considerably. An MRI and CT scans were done and they discovered three tumors, the largest of which was the size of a lime and was pressing on her spine, fracturing it and causing nerve issues and loss of proper bladder function. The biopsy results are still outstanding, but the medical team has advised that they are likely malignant.
Hevyn is currently scheduled for surgery to stabilize the spine and try to prevent long lasting nerve damage. Following that initial surgery, she'll go through radiation and multiple additional surgeries to fully remove the tumors. Extensive (and expensive) medical treatments are expected to follow.
Richie is self-employed and works as a ministry coach. The insurance they have has a high out-of-pocket and they also have four children that will need childcare while Mom is in the hospital and Dad is balancing in-home care and the traveling that his consulting business requires. The family has ministered in Texas for 11 years, but have no in-state relatives to help in this season of need.
This GoFundMe is set up:
- To provide an opportunity for friends and family to share in this journey of healing.
- To offset medical expenses through the treatments which at this time include (will be updated as needed):
- 2+ surgeries
- Hospital inpatient
- Physical therapy
- Radiation
- Chemotherapy
- Imaging and testing
- To offset expenses for care of the children and household duties.
- To allow Richie to be in-person support as much as possible post-surgery.
