Help with Linda's stroke recovery

Donation protected

Please help us raise money to get my dear sister Linda Angelotti settled into an assisted living home.

For those who don’t know, here’s some background. This all started early last year when circumstances caused my sister and my nephew, Chris, who had shared an apartment for over 18 years, to be evicted. They had to put all their belongings into storage and Linda had to move in with a friend temporarily.

Linda’s son Chris — my nephew — who struggled with bipolar disorder, moved to Las Vegas looking for a new start. He invited Linda to come to visit him and see if she would like to move there.  Fearing what may become of Chris left on his own, my sister found a place she liked for much less than the San Jose area and was planning to move to Vegas when she had a stroke. This happened last May.

While Linda was recovering in a hospital in Las Vegas, Chris tragically committed suicide in October. This was, of course, devastating to her and had a negative effect on her recovery as well.

Three weeks ago, my son Joe and I were finally able to move my sister Linda back home from Las Vegas. Kaiser had led me to believe that she would have 100 days for rehab in a skilled nursing facility in the South Bay. We thought that while she was under their care, it would give Linda’s monthly retirement funds a chance to accumulate and maximize the amount she would be able to put towards assisted living.  To our great disappointment Kaiser only gave her 20 days of Rehab before they cut her lose to find her own living situation

Linda has reduced function of her left side, arm, and leg and has balance issues as a result.  At this point she is not able to walk unassisted and is pretty much confined to a wheel chair.  She needs help doing most things because she is at risk for falling. On a positive note, she is making improvements in her abilities.  I have seen her improve since she received the couple of weeks of rehab, but she still has a long way to go. She is currently in a group home that has turned out to be a very unsatisfactory situation.

After several visits to facilities all over the valley and looking for the best and least expensive place, I have found an assisted living facility with a solid community that she needs. There, Linda could have the best chance for a positive living experience and the help she needs to hopefully become independent again. But she needs financial help to get there.

Linda had some savings and her monthly retirement but, while she was incapacitated, her finances fell to her son Chris. My nephew was a sweetheart, but did not do a good job of paying Linda’s bills on time, and unfortunately spent the remainder of her savings. This left Linda with serious financial difficulties and we are hoping to raise enough money to cover the deposit for the assisted living home, retire some other debts, and pay for a couple of months of rent on her and Chris’ storage lockers until we can liquidate what she no longer has room for.

The general amount we have calculated to be is $7500 and we need the funds as soon as possible hopefully this week

We hope you can help get Linda settled and back on the road to recovery. She and our family have been through a lot in the last year and we are very appreciative of anything that you can contribute.  If you have any questions please contact me by email
