Lala is part of a group of Andrews University students that will be traveling to Madagascar this spring (May, 2019). The group is part of the Community and International Development Program. https://www.andrews.edu/cas/tours/index.html This year, our community development project will focus on assisting the Womens Shelter in Soamanandrariny Antananarivo, Madagascar.
This shelter aids and houses a limited number of women and boys and girls who have been sexually abused or a victim of sexual trafficking. There are up to 200 people a day that seek shelter there, although they can house only a dozen at a time for no more than 30 days. At the end of that time they seek to place them in a safe place for a longer term. Each student on the trip will be taking an extra large suitcase of supplies.
Students in this program at Andrews are learning how to be of service either at home or abroad in humanitarian and development situations. On the trip we will be exposed to extreme poverty, and learn how to evaluate each situation and suggest or make improvements.
Because it is very expensive to be in college, Lala's resources are stretched very thin, although he is working the maximum amount allowed. They will be out of the country for at least 3 weeks, so funds are needed to help pay for expenses while they are gone. He needs the funds to be financially cleared by the end of February.
