Reaching out for Help with Housing...

Hello -
My name is Serah Munroe. I’m 37 years old, and I’m from Columbus, Ohio.
This Go Fund Me is about radical authenticity as for the last few months I’ve been living out of my car with my two rescue dogs, Luna and Angel. Luna is a mutt, and Angel is an American bulldog.
Over the last several years, with the pandemic and one misfortune outside of my control after another, I headed to Florida to be with my 83-year-old father to act as a caretaker, in hopes of starting over. But as comforting as it was to spend time with family, I was confronted by an endless barrage of government policies aimed against me as a transgender woman. I was prevented from accessing healthcare, including my hormones, antidepressants, as well as any mental health services, therapy, etc. Because of the atmosphere fostered and nurtured by those policies, I lost work as a freelance contractor/business consultant. Being a trans woman became dangerous in central southern Florida.
I got in my car and headed to the next place where I had any real network or hope to find a job in my field... on the other side of the country.
I’ve lived day by day by God’s grace and my own resourcefulness, power, freelancing along the way. Quietly choosing to be brave by the faith of precious few friends with whom I shared this experience. All encouraged me to reach out for support.
I experienced many lessons on the road that humbled me and taught me a great deal about what really matters and what I am capable of.
It is a natural reaction of mine, like muscle memory, to recoil against showing vulnerability. Life has taught me to put on a brave face, project strength and confidence, never let the world see how much it can hurt me. But I have many trans daughters who, if they were in my position and I came to find out about it, I would leap to help them! I realize, finally, that I deserve that same mercy, although it requires the same vulnerability, which is stressful for me, especially in my line of work of making everything look perfect all the time. So I'm here to humbly ask for your help to get this Haus Mother back on her feet now that I've finally arrived in California!
Any funds that I could raise (with a goal of $3,000 in mind) is to truly help me make a fresh start. I must secure safe housing within 30 days and be able to move out of my car. It is to help me relocate Luna and Angel, ideally into a foster home so I will be able to collect them once I have a dog-worthy apartment.
It is time to turn this story to the next chapter where I’m a content creator / Creative Director in California, able to help others. I am deeply, soulfully changed by this recent experience and have found we all really do need one another, especially during these times of social upheaval and economic crisis. I know I am just one of millions who have lost their home, their work and have been forced to economically pivot to survive. I’ve been able to make ends meet through my freelance work and the loving support of friends, sometimes just helping me get from one town to the next or get food for the dogs.
As I continue to serve my freelance clients and pursue part-time roles at Ulta, Sephora and various local shops, I require this last community boost of love to cross over from surviving to thriving.
My heart goes out to everybody who has gone through this. It’s difficult for me to ask for help when I’ve already received so much and I wish nothing but to be worthy of all the help I’ve received. Thank you for hearing my heart, protecting my journey and considering this request for housing and mutual aid. If you’re unable to offer financial assistance, your prayers and love and continued good wishes are so very much appreciated – just as they’ve always been. Onward, darlings. We will make it, together!
