Help With Housing Crisis Fundraiser

Donation protected
Hi, I'm Melissa. I also go by Aurora as my chosen name. I'm 32, about to start radiation therapy for lung cancer, and I'm blind from a genetic condition called retinitis pigmentosa. Despite how complicated life can be, I do my best to keep a smile on my face, spread love, and remain strong in my faith.

I got some news recently, that the couple I rent a spare room from will be moving into a smaller apartment at the end of July, and I'll need to find a new place to live by that time.

I don't currently have an income. I was working until about two and a half months ago when I had to have surgery to remove a tumor from my lung. My health hasn't improved enough to allow me to return to work, so I've applied for SSDI benefits and am waiting to begin receiving payments. Until that time, though, i need to ask for help, which is why I made this fundraiser.

I do not know where I can go from here.

Moving in with family is not an option for me. Both of my parents have passed away. My only sibling has severe addiction issues and is currently homeless. I don't have a relationship with my extended family (I suppose I'm the "black sheep" of the group, so I've never been included or welcomed by them).

I've explored the possibility with my case worker of moving to an assisted living facility. This is a possibility for the future but at this time, the only facilities that accept my insurance in my area have waiting lists, so it could be months or more before I get this opportunity.

The worst case scenario is that I end up homeless again. I've been through this before, at a time that I wasn't sick. With the state of my health, the elements, the spread of disease in shelters, and the potential dangers of the situation, I'm not sure I could survive it this time.

My options and resources are extremely limited.

I've spent the last several days searching non-stop for rooms for rent, and I've found what I believe to be my best and most realistic options, which is fantastic, but it brings me to my greatest obstacle: the means to afford to move. I will need to be able to pay a security deposit, first month's rent, a pet fee (I have two crazy kitties), and for other various moving expenses.

This is happening at such a tumultuous and scary time. I'm still in recovery from the surgery I mentioned before. I am scheduled to have my kidney stents replaced on July 19th. I'm supposed to be starting radiation at the beginning of August. There is a lot piling up, and I'm finding it almost impossible to handle it all. I made this fundraiser in hopes of lessening the load, and making stability and safety possible going forward. I need help, and I am praying I might be fortunate enough to receive the support I need to accomplish this huge feat.

If you can donate, it would be an absolute blessing to me. Every dollar is helpful when working towards a goal, so please spare what you can and it will be met with an abundance of gratitude.

Here is a breakdown of my $2,000 goal:
-I'm asking for $150 to cover application fees and background checks
-I'm asking for $500 for a security deposit
-I'm asking for $750 for first month's rent
-I'm asking for $350 for a pet deposit
-I'm asking for $100 for moving supplies
-I'm asking for $150 for miscellaneous needs, transportation, mover fees, or additional supplies

Thank you so much for reading this, and for any help you may be able to offer. Bless you.
