My fourteen years old daughter and I became homeless in September of 2019, after many years of living in a one bed room apartment while working. We live in Boston, MA where the cost of living is extremely high in terms of affording a reasonable rent and still be able to survive. As a working single mother; with some health issues, it’s extremely difficult to make ends meet. We lived in our car for few weeks while we showered at our local Boston Kroc Center, in order for me to go to work and my daughter to start her new high school.
I asked a friend to help me find a room to rent, so this can allow me to save money to purchase a place to call home. She found us a room, we moved in on October 21, 2019 after sleepingin our car for about a month. About two weeks ago , the owner of the apartment, asked us to move out by the end of August. It’s impossible for me to find an apartment I can afford and at the same time save money due to the high cost of rent in Boston, especially in the middle of a pandemic.
My soon to be fifteen years old has never had a room of her own. It’s my hope that someday in the near future she gets a room of her own, instead of her sharing a room with me. I am currently working at a health center, and trying my best to get a permanent place to call home , so we would never have to worry about moving or becoming homeless again.
I realized that I cannot do this alone. We are desperately in need of help, a decent place to call home and live peacefully . As a single mother of a teenager during this pandemic, and everything else that is going on, it’s extremely difficult to have a conversation with my daughter as to how we got to this point. This is a very difficult time for us, but I continue to remain hopeful. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
