Help with DACA Application Fees

Due to a recent court order, U.S. Department of Homeland Security is now accepting new applications for DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals). This program allows undocumented immigrants who were brought here as children to obtain a work permit and deportation deferral.  In order to be eligible, the applicant must live in the U.S. continuously since June 2007, have no criminal record, and graduated high school in the U.S. 

As someone who grew up undocumented in this country, I know the hardships of having no papers. A lot of undocumented students came here as young children or toddlers so they have no memories/knowledge of the country they came from; the U.S. is the only home they know. As a child, you either grow up unaware you are undocumented or you are told that you must keep it hidden from everyone for fear of deportation. In high school, you watch your classmates apply for work permits, driver's licenses, free lunches, voting, and financial aid while you are left to fend for yourself.  DACA is a light at the end of a dark tunnel for a lot of undocumented students. It's the opportunity to finally contribute to this country that they call home. It's NOT welfare nor does it qualify anyone undocumented for federal aid. 

When I got my work permit, I cried for an hour straight because I was so relieved.  Twenty something years of living in fear and anxiety was finally over. That is why I want to help students who are going through same things I did in high school/college.  I am currently mentoring several undocumented students who are excited at their chance to finally live a normal life with DACA. The fee for the initial application is $495. This fundraiser is to help with those whose families cannot afford the fee on their own.  Anything you can help with is appreciated.
