Help with Barney's Vet Bills after Hit & Run RTA

Donation protected
Hi I'm Denise, but this is about Barney my furbaby, Barney is a very active and happy dog, he's unfortunately deaf but that doesn't slow him down.

He's well known in the community, and well loved, by many in the area. Barney loves long walks, several miles through woodland, chasing random smells and exploring and is full of life. His Brother Bumble the Bulldog is missing him now too.

Barney is a King Charles Cavalier who on 12th August at 11am was on his way home morning walk just a few hundred meters from home when a Black Audi Q7, slowed down and Barney took a few steps off the pavement only for the vehicle to "appear" to turn in to pavement and hit Barney snapping his lead and rolling him under the car while he was screaming I was banging on the car for the driver to stop. They carried on, then sped off fleeing the scene.

I unfortunately was too focussed on Barney so didn't get an accurate description, however a council worker and nearby neighbors did. Neighbors from 75-100m away heard Barney's noise, it's not possible the driver didn't hear him.

After the car had left and it was safe for me to get to him, he was lay flat motionless on his side in the middle of the road. I thought the worst.

I rushed to get Barney to his usual vets, where his hind legs was both limp and hanging/swinging. Barney was given Oxygen, and strong pain relief, at this point it was Ketamin and Methadone, while his red blood count was checked to help determine if there was internal bleeding, along with 2 intravenous lines installed for fluids and medications.

The bill at this point was estimated at £400-800.

We had to leave him at the vets, until stablised enough for them to give him anaesthesia in order to position him for x-rays he was in that much pain he had to put out.

These X-Rays show 5 major fractures / breaks in his Pelvis, making it look more like a jigsaw puzzle. This showed his left leg is still attached to his pelvis but the left side has 3 snaps making his leg and part of the pelvis/socket totally detached. His right side has 2 snaps (X ray images attached).

His red blood count was slightly low which could indicate possible internal bleeding, for which an ultrasound scan will be needed.

The cost at this point is £811.

Barney once stabilised enough, was transported to an animal hospital where he would be kept still for still rest and heavily medicated for the weekend, where the ultrasound will be performed and red blood count monitored.

This will cost £1070 until 8am Monday 15th August where he will need to be transferred to an orthopedic specialist veterinary practice for an assessment and to formulate a possible plan going forward and if it's viable and feasible. Nothing is sure at this point.

This Orthopedic Practice is looking at a cost of £3,610 after which there will be ongoing costs for medications, check ups and more.

The total cost expected at this point is around £6,500-7000

Barney is insured and there is approx £3,700 left for this year in his policy, which brings us here asking for help.

We are still hopeful we may be able to find the driver, and perhaps pursuit their car insurance but it's still early days.

Expenses to date are..
£847 Friday Urgent Care at Albany.
£1070 Weekend Care at Woodcroft.
£3100 Orthopedic Surgery at Dogwood.
£572 Post Op Care at Woodcroft.
£344 Urine Tests and Catheter
£140 Futher Urine Tests, Antibiotics and Pain Medicine.
£54 per Physiotherapist Session.

I'll gather all the invoices and receipts, and post then all.
