Help Willow Heal: A Military Family’s Beloved Companion

The Beck household came to a screeching halt on October 22, 2024. While relocating from Honolulu, Hawaii, to Fort Riley, Kansas, the family made a brief stop in Republic, Missouri, to see loved ones. But in a tragic accident, their one-year-old Aussie Doodle, Willow, suffered severe injuries that now require extensive surgery.

Willow isn’t just a pet to the Becks; she’s a hopeful lifeline for Amanda, who was recently medically retired from the Air Force. Willow was to be trained as a service companion for Amanda’s health needs, making her an irreplaceable member of this military family. Tragically, in the hustle and bustle of unpacking and settling in, Willow slipped out and spotted another animal across the street she wanted to play with. In her excitement and anxiety in the unfamiliar environment, Willow was struck by a passing vehicle, suffering fractures to one of her front legs and severe soft tissue damage to the other.

The cries that followed were every pet parent’s nightmare. Willow was rushed to Family Pet Care in Republic, Missouri, where her left leg needed artery repair, and her right leg was found to have fractures requiring orthopedic surgery, estimated at over $8,000. Additionally, follow up appointments, travel, and lodging expenses are adding up as they commute hours away to Columbia, Missouri, where the specialized surgery can be performed.

The Becks are facing this financial strain while also preparing to settle into their new home and duty station. As they navigate this challenging time, any donation will make a tremendous difference in ensuring Willow receives the care she needs and help ease the burdens on this military family.
