<div>I am Alicia Thompson and this is the story of my own special Superman and his Lois Lane. My father, Wiley, fell from 8 feet on Sunday, May 25, 2025, and landed on his head on a concrete floor. This fall caused head trauma and an ASIA C spinal cord injury. My 77-year-old father has been an electrician all his life and has worked hard for many years to provide for my mom Dale, my brother Adam, and me. He was working on a light fixture when the fall occurred. Even at his age, he is the hardest working and greatest man I know. Not only did he continue to do electrical work at his age, he is also the main caregiver for my mom, his wife of 54 years. You see, my mom has Alzheimer's; she was diagnosed a year ago. My parents have always been inseparable from the moment they met, just like Superman and Lois Lane. To me, my father has been invincible for all of my almost 53 years, a bulletproof man of steel. His love for my mom is one of the greatest love stories I know. But even Superman and Lois have their kryptonite. <strong>My dad has a long road ahead as he currently has limited movement of his arms and legs.</strong> My mom's world has been turned upside down. As with Alzheimer's patients, disrupting their daily routine can cause them mental stress and anxiety, which exacerbates the disease. Needless to say, my parents' world has been rocked by this terrible accident. <strong>The medical bills and care that will be required in the future are overwhelming.</strong> My brother and I are rallying to help my parents by ensuring daddy gets the medical care he needs, as well as now becoming the full-time caregivers of my mom as well. This, as you can imagine, is challenging as my brother and I have full-time jobs and families of our own that we provide for. I see my dad fight hard to make his body move so he can get home to my mom. I see the anguish in my mom's face each time she visits my dad in the hospital, at times not quite understanding the magnitude of the events that have transpired over the last two weeks. And then, when the moment of reality sets in, watching her sob tears of despair at not being able to have her husband come home with her. My dad's battle is a long and costly one. My parents have always been able to provide by working hard all their lives, but this is going to be financially devastating for them. We have seen small improvements in my dad, but what he will or will not be able to do is unknown. Daddy's goal is to dance with my mom at their 55th wedding anniversary on February 6th and if I know anything about the man, when he's determined he can do anything! Any support you can provide would be greatly appreciated, and if nothing else, your prayers are much needed and wanted.
