<div><strong>Wilber is a special human on many levels:</strong> a devoted husband, loving father of four, hardworking self-employed contractor, volunteer pastor, and deeply valued member of our neighborhood and community. For those of us lucky enough to know him, Wilber is the kind of person who greets you with a smile and a joke, works incredibly hard, and shows up for others with kindness, humility, and generosity.

<div><strong>In December, Wilber was diagnosed with lymphoma, a cancer that affects the lymphatic system. </strong>He has been undergoing grueling chemotherapy for the past five months, a treatment regimen that has become more painful and debilitating over time. At first, Wilber tried to keep working because he wants nothing more than to support his family. But his doctors have told him he needs to rest and focus on healing. Chemotherapy has caused dizziness, nausea, and exhaustion, making it impossible for him to safely continue construction work or drive to jobs right now.

<div>For more than 30 years, Wilber has run his own small-scale construction business across the Bay Area. We have known him for over a decade, and for all these years, we have always seen him working, taking care of his family, shuttling his kids to school and sports, and doing whatever needed to be done. For the first time, he is unable to work, and being self-employed has complicated his access to disability pay during treatment.

<div>Because Wilber cannot work, his family has quickly used up their savings. Everyday expenses have continued to pile up, and they are now facing debt and urgent financial challenges while he still has another two months of treatment and recovery ahead.

<div><strong>Most urgently, Wilber and his family need help staying housed.</strong> They are behind on rent, and keeping a roof over this family’s head is the immediate priority. They also need support paying utilities, car and work truck payments, gas, groceries, meals, and basic household expenses so Wilber can return to work once his treatment ends this summer.
