Hello Friends,
Many of you know that my sister Weatherly was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis 2 years ago. At the time, she and her beautiful family were living in the Boston area but have since moved back to Albany to a house which was just not accessible for her and needed a ton of work. On top of that, she has been prescribed a motorized wheelchair to get around. These chairs are not cheap ($20k!) and insurance only covers a portion. Her cost will come in at $6,775 and they just don’t have the funds to cover it. A motorized chair would allow her to be more functional in the house so she can cook a meal and it would even allow her to get out!
For their home renovations, they have taken out a loan to install a lift from the garage, install a door into the house and raise the floor of the enclosed porch so she can wheel herself into the house. They were also able to take out their bathtub and install a walk-in shower with handicapped accessible features.
But, there are still many projects left to be done to help Weatherly in her daily life.
The garage door needs to be replaced and the driveway leveled up to the garage so she can get out of the house by herself. Also there are no railings on the front porch, so she can’t get out that way using a walker.
The bathroom is still torn up and she needs a vanity and mirror that will allow her to use them while sitting so she can give herself her injections.
Weatherly has been unable to drive for the past year. Her husband Hunter has to take time off from work to drive her and their daughter Chloe to appointments. He has been doing most of the shopping and just about everything! If you can’t donate financially and live in the Albany area, Weatherly would truly appreciate if anyone wanted to come and help her make meals or unpack boxes from their move.
My sister has been amazing and strong through this diagnosis and although asking for help is so difficult for her, she knows what a difference it will make to her and her family. On behalf of Weatherly, I truly appreciate any help you can provide. Thank you.
