Art Heals! Warriors For Peace Theatre uses the arts to promote peace and help returning veterans heal. We need your help with our debut production of Julius Caesar.  Help us accomplish our mission of providing catharsis for our servicemen and women and be a part of this historic piece of theatre!

What is Warriors for Peace?
Founded by Iraq War Veteran Christopher Loverro, Warriors For Peace Theatre (WFP) is a collaboration of US military veterans and civilians who believe in the healing effects of art. Our company provides catharsis for those who have served, and provides healing through the theatre.

Our projects are designed to build bridges between communities, support disenfranchised groups, promote ethnic diversity, empower women, shrink the civil-military divide, and foster peace among nations.
 
WFP has a simple philosophy: Who better to promote peace than those who have seen the face of war? We believe art transcends politics and brings people together. WFP provides veteran artists a venue to use their craft to have a positive impact on the world around them and the communities they live in.
 
Our calendar year consists of free Shakespeare workshops for veterans, showcases to empower women, community outreach projects, and theatrical productions. Although we have produced all of these types of events already, we are seeking funds to continue this work as a 501(c)3 and produce our debut theatrical performance ofJulius Caesar on November 30th, 2019. Our work will not be possible without your support.
 
Why Julius Caesar as your first large production? What makes this show so important or special?
 
Our nation has been at war for nearly 20 consecutive years. In this production, we have cast military veterans, who have actually lived through and survived the horrors of war. They will bring a certain authenticity to their roles seldom seen in this production.
 
Additionally, we’re placing Julius Caesar in a modern war setting, making it more relevant for a contemporary audience.
 
Our production of Julius Caesar is a collaboration of civilians and veterans, highlighting our mission to close the military-civilian divide, using art to heal and bring people together. Veterans collaborating with civilians is a critical component of the re-integration process for when men and women return from service.
 
Our production will have a very diverse cast, which reflects the military and modern society in a way that is seldom seen. Additionally, we’re gender bending some of the leading roles at a time where there is a huge push for more female leading roles. Our production provides these previously unavailable opportunities for women and other actors with less representation in the industry.

Over the next near Warriors For Peace Theatre will be partnering with organizations addressing suicide and homelessness within the veterans community. Ten percent of ticket sales from our upcoming production of Julius Caesar will be donated to The Midnight Mission and The Giving Angels: non-profit organizations providing food, shelter, and other services for the
homeless. 

 
What has Warriors for Peace accomplished? What’s its past, and where is its future?

WFP is not just a good idea. We have a history of successes to point to that shows how powerful the collaboration is when civilians and veterans come together to help our war fighters heal, empower people, and promote peace through building bridges—all done through the arts. Here are some examples of our work this past year:
 
1. THE WOMEN OF SHAKESPEARE:



In the last year WFP put on two productions to showcase the talent of women and let the world see the solidarity, strength, and beauty of women coming together to express their power through the words of Shakespeare. Directed by women, this all female cast was a collaboration of veterans and civilians. Due to the huge success of these previous shows, we plan on staging another all female production later this year and include veteran stories into the theme of Shakespeare's works.

2. VETERANS SUPPORT THE MUSLIM COMMUNITY - A DAY OF DANCE AND SHAKESPEARE:


In order to take a stand against Islamophobia and hate, WFP partnered with DIAVOLO | Architecture in Motion® to support the Muslim community by offering a free workshop. Held at the IMAN center in LA, veterans and community members of the Muslim faith spent a day learning Shakespeare and dance.

3. PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT - PROMOTING TOLERANCE

Fighting Discrimination With Shakespeare: America is great BECAUSE of its diversity!
WFP assembled 28 actors to recite a famous monologue Shakespeare wrote for the book of Sir Thomas More. Based on historical events, this powerful piece depicts More's attempt to find the humanity in people and is a plea for us to see each other as brothers and sisters and not the "other:" Part of the PSA was spoken in eleven languages and was a collaboration of veteran and civilians.

5. STAGE PRODUCTION OF JULIUS CAESAR:
OPENS NOVEMBER 30TH, 2019. HUDSON THEATRE, HOLLYWOOD, CA.
 
As we described above, WFP is excited to launch is debut theatrical production of Julius Caesar! Our exciting play will be in a modern war setting with gender bending roles and an ethnically diverse cast comprised of military veterans and civilians. Directed by Ann Noble. Hollywood, CA. We open November 1st!

MEET OUR WARRIORS FOR PEACE FOUNDER:

CHRISTOPHER LOVERRO is the producer, Founder of Warriors For Peace Theatre, a classically trained actor, and part of Diavolo's veteran dance project. He is a graduate of UC Berkeley's Peace and Conflict Studies program, former Berkeley Police Officer and attends the Second City Conservatory. His vision is to heal and bring people together through the arts and his theatre company provides catharsis for his fellow veterans through Shakespeare. He will be playing Brutus.
