Wanda and Robin
Our dear friends of the Tuscaloosa community are in need of prayers right now. 3 months ago Robin Curtis was outside with the neighbors dog when he suffered a stroke. He was found in his yard, taken to the hospital where he spent 2 weeks, followed by 2 weeks of inpatient therapy. He has monoplegia on the left side and can’t use his left arm. His wife Wanda has been helping him regain his strength at home in addition to his physical, occupational and speech therapists which she drives him to 3 days a week. Yesterday morning Robin found Wanda in the kitchen floor at their home, unresponsive. The ambulance took her to DCH where she was found to have a large stroke. She was flown to UAB where she is currently. She still has not spoken but will open her eyes when she hears her name. She does not have use of her right arm. Now they will both need each other but both have been left with deficits from their strokes. Wanda’s are still unknown at this time. Robin and Wanda have been married for 38 years, together for 48. They have both dedicated their lives and careers as first responders in Tuscaloosa. Robin was a lieutenant with the Tuscaloosa fire department where he retired after 35 years and Wanda was a nurse at DCH for 47 years. They are both the very best friends that a person could have. I have known them my entire life. Several years ago when my mother had 6 major surgeries from a horse accident, Robin and Wanda were on the tarmac waiting for her air flight arrival and they, along with their amazing friend group, did not stop helping my parents with whatever was needed. They all have an amazing friend group and are the most compassionate, caring people. They do not have children but they have a family of fur babies that mean the world to them. They have rescued and adopted dogs through the years, taking in elderly dogs, blind dogs, wherever the need is, they welcome them into their home. They’ve devoted their lives to helping others in their community and they are in need of our help right now as most of their family has passed on or lives far away. Prayers and donations are appreciated at this time to help ease the financial burden while they both get the therapy and help they need with their limitations to help each other. On behalf of all of us that love them, we thank you in advance.
