Down Never Out... help Walter recover

Donation protected

Walter is my 47 year old brother. He is my
kid’s ‘funcle’ and co-guardian to our younger
brother Al, who is Autistic. Walter has
worked for UPS for over 15 years. He cared
for our mom during her illness until she passed away in 2018. When he was 9 years old, he
filled out a recruitment card for the Marines and sent it in. A Marine officer wrote back
and explained he needed to be 18 to enlist and commended him for wanting to serve his country. At 18, my brother enlisted in the US Army and served for 8 years. That is
who he is... a decent guy with a good heart.

Walter had a severe stomach bug preceding
the hospitalization. He had gone to an urgent care clinic, was on antibiotics, and getting IV hydration. He had missed work for several
days, which was a rare occurrence.

On Monday, January 20th, my brother Walter was taken to the emergency room. Upon arrival, he had a fever of 107, was septic, had major organ failure, was unresponsive and was quickly sedated, intubated and admitted to ICU at Saint Francis Hospital in Hartford, Connecticut.

He can’t regulate his blood pressure, has kidney failure and is on dialysis, he developed pneumonia twice, has blisters the size of my palm on his hands and feet. His extremities have lost circulation, so some of his fingers and toes have turned black. There’s fluid around his heart, the risk of cardiac arrest was imminent. He has a hematoma behind his stomach that was bleeding internally, making all blood transfusion futile. He received at least 8 units of blood. He has been on numerous medications, the most sophisticated antibiotics and heavy duty narcotics. He’s been on a ventilator since he’s unable to breathe on his own.

The money collected will be used to cover
medical and living expenses. Walter will need to go to rehab after the hospital stay. He
relies on his income alone for all of his
expenses.
