I met a good friend, Alena, who also knew the trials of being an immigrant, a young widow and a single mom with kids. She was like family to me.

<div>On July 4, 2024, we were invited on a boat and asked if we wanted to go “tubing.” We agreed. We asked what we needed to do, know or not do and were told to have fun. My daughter filmed us as we floated behind a brand new boat. At some point, the boat was going too fast and the tube went on land and hit a tree. My friend Alena died, and I was seriously injured. I will need surgery, longterm rehabilitation and have a lifetime of injures. I also watched my friend die as she rode in the tube with me. Now, my ability to walk, work and live has been impacted and the courts offer no immediate help.
