Our family has been hit with the Big C. Not once, but twice and at the same time!
Our dad, Victor, was recently diagnosed with cancer that metastasized all over his body and the tumors/masses keep growing. His cancer is aggressive and unable to treat so his doctors are recommending hospice care. If you know our dad, then you’re aware that he’s always in good spirits, telling jokes to make everyone around him laugh, always positive about life, and the life of every party. Although his body is currently fighting against him, his spirits remain positive.
Our mom, Amy, has been battling Stage 2 breast cancer for a year. Instead of worrying about herself and going through her own cancer battle, she’s busy taking care of our dad and making sure he gets the best treatment and that he’s comfortable. Her main concern in life is her family, so she’s doing everything she can to save her husband.
This has heavily impacted our family and both diagnoses caught us by surprise. As we were dealing with and preparing ourselves for the long road ahead with our mom’s breast cancer and her treatment, we were shocked to find out the devastating diagnosis with our dad. Not only has this news affected us emotionally, but financially as well. With both of them physically unable to work at the moment and while undergoing treatment, bills are stacking up. We’re now at the point of asking for support from our family, friends and new friends. This is very difficult for us to cope with, but now we feel it is a necessary step.
