VIC NIETO NEEDS YOUR HELP!!
About four weeks ago Vic ended up in the ER. He didn’t know what was wrong, but knew something wasn’t right. After an initial blood test he was immediately admitted into the ICU in critical condition with a blood sugar level of over 500. There he was diagnosed with advanced stage 2 diabetes. He spent the next five days in the ICU, almost comatose, where doctors tried to stabilize him and lower his sugar levels. It was then they discovered that his pancreas is no longer functioning and he will need insulin for the rest of his life.
As soon as he was stabalized he spent another seven days in the hospital, where doctors began running tests to determine the extent of damage that was done to his organs, due to several years of undiagnosed diabetes.
The tests revealed that he now has heart damage. Further tests will determine when he will be strong enough for a surgical procedure that will hopefully repair the damaged vessels and arteries by inserting a stint. As a result of the heart issues he also has very high blood pressure, which doctors are trying to regulate through medications.
It was also discovered that he has a detached retina, caused by high sugar levels in the blood. His vision is so impaired at this time that he can only see a few feet in front of him. Further testing will dertermine if he is a candidate for eye surgery. Though the damage will not be reversed through surgery, it will prevent any further damage from occurring to his eye. Currently he is waiting to get special lenses, which are very costly, so at least he will be able to see more clearly.
At this point doctors have told Vic that he will be out of work for a minimum of six months to a year, providing there are no further complications. He has no income at this time and the stress of learning how to live with diabetes, the damage it has done to his body, and the mounting medical bills, both current and future, have become overwhelming for him.
Anybody who knows Vic, knows he is a very caring and giving person. He is also someone who has a lot of pride and would NEVER ask anybody for help. So we are asking for help on his behalf.
Any amount of money you can give would be so much appreciated. We are hoping that if Vic’s financial burden can be lifted a bit, then he can just focus on getting well and getting his life back.
