Help Vegan Restaurant Stay In Business
In southwestern, New Hampshire there has been only one 100% vegan restaurant operating for the past 30 years — Country Life Vegan Restaurant.
Starting in 1966, the first “Country Life” was opened in Grand Rapids, Michigan. At the highest number of Country Life restaurants, there were 12 in the United States — in cities like New York City and Boston — and nine in other countries. Now there are only two left in the whole country and one is in Keene, NH.

Customers get great vegan food, plus much more. Peggy offers educational programs, ministers to the needs of the community — with free community Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners — and provides a relaxed atmosphere as a refuge for customers from the stresses of the work-a-day world.
Says Peggy, “while relaxing you can also know you are extending your life with a healthier you by eating less meat — and helping to lower green house gases.”
“My number one goal is to educate," says Peggy. “But with that said, most people relate to be a vegetarian or vegan with carrot sticks and celery sticks. So I have as much a mission, I think, to show them that if you satisfy the taste buds it’s easy to be a vegetarian or a vegan. To do that you need to give them something that tastes good, and satisfies their desires, while not compromising nutrition. I believe we do that.”

These are TWO overhead expenses creating a FINANCIAL BURDEN where we need support:
First: We have been notified by the city of Keene we have until the end of December to update our fire suppression system for the kitchen. We need these emergency funds by mid-October in order to have a new fire system up and running by December (otherwise the city may force us to close). The cost for an updated fire system is approximately: $4700-$5100.
Second: Our air conditioning system has been here since 1985. There has been no efficient cooling for many years. We need to upgrade for energy efficiency and so customers can have a comfortable dining experience.
