<div>Elle a adopté Valentin à la <strong>SPCA en 2016</strong>, en même temps que son frère <strong>Joe</strong>, après une saisie de plus de 100 chats. Les deux étaient déjà inséparables au refuge. Valentin a aussi une sœur, <strong>Chaplin</strong>, disparue depuis juin 2025 et qui manque terriblement à sa famille.

<div><strong>Son histoire</strong>
</div>
<div>Valentin a eu un début de vie difficile. Avant son adoption, il a été confié à une personne irresponsable qui lui donnait des médicaments humains en doses dangereuses, parce qu’elle trouvait que son poil n’était pas assez brillant. Cela lui a laissé de lourdes séquelles, notamment de graves lésions cutanées.

<div>À la SPCA, il a été placé sous une <strong>diète hypoallergénique</strong> par précaution. Et même si à l’époque la cause n’était pas confirmée, les années ont démontré que cette nourriture est essentielle : chaque fois qu’il a dû manger autre chose (notamment pendant la pénurie COVID où Julie a fait des kilomètres – Ottawa, Montréal, Lachute, Hawkesbury – pour trouver son alimentation vitale), ses symptômes sont revenus immédiatement.

<div>Valentin a déjà beaucoup souffert. Julie a toujours juré qu’il ne connaîtrait plus jamais l’abandon ni la douleur.

<div><strong>Les épreuves récentes</strong>
</div>
<div>Depuis juillet 2025, Valentin vit un véritable cauchemar médical :
</div>
<ul>
<li>Diagnostic de <strong>cardiomyopathie hypertrophique</strong> (maladie cardiaque).
</li>
<li><strong>Hypertension artérielle et œdème pulmonaire</strong>, avec de grandes difficultés à respirer.
</li>
<li><strong>Perte de poids extrême, anorexie et déshydratation sévère.</strong>
</li>
<li>Des hospitalisations répétées, avec fluidothérapie IV, examens, échographies, radiographies, médicaments pour le cœur, la tension et l’appétit.
</li>
<li>Et plus récemment, un diagnostic crucial : Valentin souffre en fait de <strong>polypes récidivants</strong> qui se sont propagés jusqu’à sa gorge et l’empêchent de manger et de respirer normalement.

<div><strong>Le fardeau financier</strong>
</div>
<div>En quelques semaines, les frais vétérinaires ont <strong>dépassé 8 000 $ CAD</strong> : échographie cardiaque, hospitalisations d’urgence, analyses de laboratoire, traitements, médicaments et soins spécialisés.

<div>Julie a tout payé jusqu’à présent, parce qu'elle refuse d’abandonner son compagnon. Mais aujourd’hui, elle ne peux plus assumer seule.

<div>Valentine had a rough start in life. Before adoption, he was placed with an irresponsible person who gave him human medications in full human doses, simply because she thought his coat wasn’t shiny enough. This left him with severe skin lesions.

<div>The SPCA placed him on a <strong>hypoallergenic</strong> <strong>diet</strong> while he recovered, as the exact cause of his lesions wasn’t confirmed. Years later, it became clear this diet is vital to his health: every time he was forced to eat regular food (like during the COVID shortage where Julie had to drive hours – Ottawa, Montréal, Lachute, Hawkesbury – just to find the last remaining bags on shelves), his symptoms came back immediately.

<div>Valentine has suffered enough once. Julie promised he would never suffer again.
</div>

</div>
<div><strong> His recent struggles</strong>
</div>
<div>Since July 2025, Valentine has faced a devastating medical battle:
</div>
<ul>
<li>Diagnosis of <strong>hypertrophic cardiomyopathy</strong> (a heart disease).
</li>
<li><strong>High blood pressure</strong> <strong>and pulmonary edema</strong>, making it hard for him to breathe.
</li>
<li><strong>Extreme weight loss, anorexia, and severe dehydration</strong>.
</li>
<li>Multiple emergency hospitalizations, IV fluids, scans, X-rays, medications for heart, blood pressure, and appetite.
</li>
<li>And most recently, a crucial diagnosis: Valentine actually suffers from <strong>recurring polyps</strong>, which have spread into his throat and now make it difficult for him to eat and breathe.
</li>

<div><strong>The financial burden</strong>
</div>
<div>In just a few weeks, Valentine’s medical bills have <strong>exceeded</strong> <strong>$8,000 CAD</strong>: echocardiography, emergency hospitalizations, lab tests, treatments, medications, and specialized care.

<div>Julie has covered these costs so far, because she refuses to give up on him. But she can no longer do this alone.
