Help Us to Keep Our Family Mobile
My name is Lucie. Both my husband, Paul, and I have chronic illnesses that impact our energy levels and mobility, so we rely on a car for transport. On a bad day I can’t walk for more than a few hundred metres without every symptom getting worse. Paul has a degenerative neurological disease. We have always been a one car family but life would be extremely difficult and at times impossible with none at all.
Paul’s job requires him to visit customers onsite, often over an hour’s drive away. We have been fortunate that his job came with a car, as ours was twenty years old and pretty much dead. In addition to work, we both attend regular medical appointments and also have kids that need taking to places.
Unfortunately, last week Paul was made redundant. He worked for a small business, so they’re not required to pay redundancy pay. He’s looking for a new job, but in his industry where travel to clients anywhere in the state will still be necessary.
The car is leased and Paul’s boss has offered for us to pay that out at cost. He’s asking for nothing more than he would have to pay himself. This generous offer means we could own a much more reliable and safe vehicle at a significantly lower price than usual. However, even if we exhaust all our savings, we cannot afford it. The idea of having no financial cushion right now is terrifying. Additionally, to be able to do this, we have to come up with the payment in just a week. Any donation you can afford, even just a few dollars, will help tremendously and give us some much needed breathing room. If you can’t donate, I would really appreciate a share. Thank you so much, from all of us.
