I have found out on Friday September 7th that I am being evicted from the apartment I have been living in for 10 years. Due to the constant rent hikes, and the pay-check to pay-check situation my family is in, we have been falling behind with rent.
I currently live with my parents and my 12-year old sister. The stress of losing a home, as a result of the eviction notice, has turned into sleepless nights. Everyday that goes on with this stress is dangerous to everyone in my household. My father is an Uber Driver who needs to focus in order to make trips safely. My mother has been sick . My 12 year old sister has to worry if she will have a home, and how that will affect her Dad, Mom and Brother.
As for myself, I am currently in finals week for UCLA's Transfer Program. I have gotten ulcer pains as a result of the stress. It is hard to focus on my studies, since every hour that passes by I think about my Sister having to face eviction. I am struggling balancing finals, papers and saving my family from being left in the streets.
However, you can make a difference right now. I have until this Friday September the 14th to raise $5,000 dollars to cover the incomplete payments of 4 month worth of rent. Any donation of any quantity helps, and re-posting on your social media platforms will go a long way.
The poor timing on this does not give me much to work with. My primary concern, currently, is having a home. I have gone through hardships, which I am used to, but my concern is my parents and my little sister. Since they do not have the know-how in navigating these situations, I am taking control and focusing on the success of the fundraising process. Unfortunately, school may be post-poned in order to ensure my family and I have somewhere to sleep.
