Help us send Jessica home

Before heroin, Jessica was an optimist. Her bright green eyes looked for the good in others. Her dimples were made for beautiful smiles which Jessica did easily and often.

Wherever she went a lightheartedness would follow. Jessica had the rare and singular ability to laugh when it was most difficult. She was not one to take life, or herself, too seriously. She was a joy to everyone who knew her. Jessica was especially good at mothering. She loved her son, Kaleb, and was a resourceful, determined, and a loving Mother.

However, addiction is a horrible disease. It takes the people you know and love and turns them into someone unrecognizable. Addiction shows you the shell of the person you loved but robs their spirit piece by piece. Addiction eats the person from the inside, cutting them off from family and friends until (if they are unable to fight it) addiction ends up taking them whole.

We lost our beautiful, optimistic Jessica to her fight against heroin on September 5th, 2017, due to overdose. At this time, Jessica had turned a corner and was fighting for her life. Everyone felt that Jessica would make it. But all it takes is just a little too much, just one misstep, and a life can be snuffed out forever. Her son, Kaleb, has become motherless at 11. We, her family, are deeply grieving a senseless, painful loss.

Jessica’s parents, Ralph and Kathy, are on the battlefield of what is one of the greatest epidemics the US has faced so far. They are raising two grandchildren from another child who has also succumbed to addiction even though they are both on disability. There is simply no money, and all resources have been exhausted.

We are a family on the knife edge.

We need your help.

Jessica deserves a dignified goodbye. Because of the family's’ long standing battle against addiction, there just isn’t anything left. There is no savings, no credit, no income coming in. But what we do have are angels. Those angels are you.

We need $4,000 to quietly and respectfully say goodbye to Jessica. $4,000 will cover the costs of cremation, a holder for her ashes, and a very brief goodbye at the funeral home.

Your contribution means that two struggling, physically ill parents are not additionally burdened with the knowledge that their child is sent home in a cardboard box. Your contribution means that her son, Kaleb, can say goodbye to his Mother in a setting and a way that honors her and him. Your contribution means that Jessica can rest in peace.

Please be the angels we are looking for on Earth as Jessica meets the angels waiting to take her home.
