Help Us Secure Emergency Guardianship for Our Disabled Son

Our family is urgently seeking help to protect our son Will, a 19-year-old with severe intellectual disabilities, nonverbal autism, and a long-standing history of epilepsy. His needs are intensive, constant, and life-threatening without medical support.

When Will turned 18 in Washington State, we were not informed that we needed to file for legal guardianship to continue managing his care. For nearly a year, services continued uninterrupted—until we relocated to Florida. Now, because no guardianship paperwork was filed, medical providers here are refusing to treat him because he cannot give consent. He has lost access to critical medications and therapies that keep him safe.

Without his daily medications, Will faces worsening seizures, violent behavioral episodes, and extreme distress that endangers his own safety and the safety of his siblings and parents. We are terrified of what may happen next.

We are seeking immediate funds to hire an emergency guardianship attorney in Florida. This legal protection will allow us to resume Will’s medical care, enroll him in support services, and stabilize his situation before irreversible harm occurs. Legal Aid and other similar agencies do not provide guardianship services.

Will is not able to speak for himself, and under current laws, no one is allowed to speak for him. The very systems meant to protect those with disabilities are failing him.

He is a person. He is a son. And he deserves care, dignity, and safety.

Any contribution will go directly toward attorney fees, filing fees, and any medical expenses that may incur during the guardianship process. If you cannot give, please share this with someone who may be able to help. Time is critical, and we are deeply grateful for your compassion.

Thank you for standing with our family.
