I just visited our sweet little Ophelia at the hospital. She’s currently at COVE (Central Ohio Veterinary Emergency), receiving critical care. Right now, she’s on IV fluids to bring down her dangerously high fever and receiving medication to help with nausea.
When she was seen at VEG Easton earlier today, her fever had spiked to an alarming 105.4°F. After fluids and being admitted to COVE, it’s come down slightly to 104.9°F—but she’s still very sick. The veterinary team is working hard to find the cause. They have run a fever of unknown origin PCR panel and are awaiting the results of that. She may still require a blood transfusion due to a really low red blood cell count causing anemia. Her red blood cell count is low, and sadly, her body isn’t regenerating new ones on its own right now.
One of the possible diagnoses is FIP (Feline Infectious Peritonitis)—a rare but very serious viral disease. While it once meant a death sentence, there is now a treatment, and we’ve successfully treated multiple FIP cases in our rescue. Given the signs, we’ve already begun her on FIP medication as a precaution, while tests are underway.
Ophelia will remain hospitalized at COVE so she can continue fluid therapy, be closely monitored, and have repeated lab work done to guide her treatment.
We are a small, volunteer-run nonprofit rescue, and to be completely transparent—we are overwhelmed. Between emergency surgeries, intensive care cases, and long-term medical fosters, including currently treating two fosters for FIP, our resources are stretched thinner than ever.
We are desperately asking for help to cover Ophelia’s emergency care. Every single dollar makes a difference. If you’re able to give—no matter how small—it will directly help Ophelia fight for her life. And if donating isn’t possible, please consider sharing this post. Visibility can save lives too.
Thank you for believing in our work and in sweet souls like Ophelia. She deserves a chance to grow up healthy, loved, and safe—and we can’t do it without you.
The current estimate from COVE is $1445.10- $2426.56. I have attached the invoice given to us.
