What started as two friends having a catch up over coffee, evolved into a life changing event!!
Ja-Lee’s special story.............
This amazing story starts with two friends having a coffee and sharing stories. Ja-Lee and I were both adopted at 6 months old to wonderful loving families and had awesome childhoods. Even though our upbringings couldn’t have been any happier, we were both left wondering where we came from. So, I suggested that we do a DNA test and see what we can find out. A few weeks later we had our Ancestry DNA kits in our hands and we were excited and full of anticipation, we did what was necessary and they were posted together that same day.
About 2 months later I received a very early text message, followed by a call from Ja-Lee announcing her DNA results were back and she had a 100% matched sister and was also an auntie to a beautiful niece! Her sisters name was Cara, she is 36 years old and living in Washington, USA. We quickly searched all the social media sites to see if we could find her, the resemblance was unbelievable.
Since then, Ja-Lee and Cara have been getting to know one another and building their relationship. They have 36 years of stories and memories to catch up on and this is where we need your help.
Because of the substantial costs to get to America to meet her sister for the very first time, they are planning to meet halfway.
The cost of one return ticket is approximately $3,500 and this will be our first goal. Our longer-term goal is to also assist with the costs for Ja-Lee’s husband Nick and 2 children to support her on this adventure.
The stories of South Korean adoptions are well known around the world with the difficulties faced by parents in the Country in those generations. Here is a short video of one of those stories..... Finding Family: A reporter shares her personal story of adoption and reunion:
