We are King’s parents, Gabby and Willie. Our hearts are broken as we share that our sweet dog, King, recently passed away. He was more than a pet, he was family, our comfort, and our best friend. We noticed that King’s breathing was abnormal, so we took him to the vet. That’s when we learned he had fluid in his lungs. Our veterinarian was very concerned because it was a significant amount and urged us to take him to the ER right away. At the ER, the doctors discovered that some of the fluid had also leaked into his abdomen. They ran multiple tests, which led them to suspect that King might have a gastrointestinal disease, something common for his breed, but something we had no idea about. To confirm, they performed an endoscopy to determine exactly what type of GI disease he had. During this process, a moderate amount of fluid was drained from his lungs. Steroids were prescribed to help his body reabsorb the remaining fluid, and for a short while, King seemed to be improving. We brought him home with hope that he was on the mend.

Tragically, only a few days later, his health declined rapidly. He stopped eating, could no longer walk on his own, and we had to rush him back to the ER. That’s when everything took a devastating turn. While we were still waiting on results that could have guided us toward treatment, time wasn’t on our side, and we never got the chance to save him. In trying to do everything possible for King, we now find ourselves in extreme debt from medical bills and emergency visits. We gave all we had for our boy, but the costs became overwhelming. Losing King has been heartbreaking enough, and the financial burden left behind has made this time even harder.

King was our everything, our entire world, and now a huge piece of us is gone. We are reaching out with humility to ask for help during this painful chapter.
