Help Us Preserve the Heart of Our Village, Now 100 Years Strong!

This year, our beloved Burton Joyce & Bulcote Village Hall turns 100 years old, a full century of stories, laughter, celebrations, and community spirit.

The hall was originally built in 1925 through the efforts of the local Women’s Institute. They had been fundraising for several years in order to purchase a hut for their meetings. Following discussion with Mr Hearnshaw and their continued fundraising efforts, an agreement was reached for the donation of land for a Hall to be built.

Since then, the has been the beating heart of village life for generations. From wedding receptions and wartime dances to playgroups, pantomimes, and polling stations it has seen it all.

But after a hundred years of faithful service, it’s time to give back to the hall that has given us so much.

The Challenges We Face

Our historic hall is showing its age and urgently needs help if it's to serve the next generation. We are launching this fundraising campaign to raise £50,000
to support towards at least the following three major improvements:

A New Roof:
Years of rain, wind, and weather have left their mark. Leaks are now threatening the structure of the hall and our cherished events. A new roof will protect our hall for the next 100 years. Cost Estimate: £30,000+

Fire Safety Upgrades:
In order to keep our community safe and remain up to date with modern fire regulations, we must install new safety systems and improve emergency access. Cost Estimate: £6,300.

Heating:
Once the Roof is replaced and the Hall has a renewed sense of energy efficiency, the heating system is in dire need of a total refit, ensuring all visitors to the hall are warmly welcomed. Cost Estimate: £30,000-£40,000.

Improved Accessibility:
Everyone deserves to belong. That’s why we’re committed to making our hall fully accessible with better wheelchair access, ramps, and inclusive facilities so no one is left outside.

We've already invested close to £15,000 this year ensuring our kitchen is fit for purpose and safe for all our hirers. The hall is our passion. Continually making it safe and accessible for our community is the goal.

Our Fundraising Total is eye watering but we are aiming high, but for all the mathematicians out there you'll have noticed we need more monies and we will be applying for grants at every turn to ensure we give the hall the TLC it deserves.

Why This Matters

This isn’t just a building. It’s where children take their first dance lessons, where lifelong friendships are made, and where we come together in joy and in grief as a community.

Restoring and improving our village hall isn’t just about bricks and mortar. It’s about preserving our shared heritage, and creating a welcoming space for the future.

How You Can Help

Every donation, big or small, brings us closer to our goal. Whether you give £5 or £500, you’re helping to:

> Keep the hall open for community use

> Protect a century of history

> Make it safe and accessible for everyone

And if you can’t donate, you can still help by sharing our story with your friends, family, and networks.

Join Us In This Historic Moment

Let’s honour the past and build the future together.

We hope you’ll stand with us in this special Centenary Year and help save our Village Hall for the next 100 years.

Thank you from all of us, past, present, and future.
