Help us pay our rent for storage

Shawbury Village Players is a small, local village drama group that has been entertaining people (we hope!) for 40 years.  We do not have our own theatre.  Productions are put on at Shawbury Village Hall and also in the summer at the lovely Acton Reynald Hall, near Shawbury.  We are a non-profit organisation, and ticket sales are used to pay for renting premises for rehearsals and productions, buying, making or hiring scenery and lighting, and licence fees.  We also rent space at Shawbury Village Hall for props, costumes, staging and scenery which costs us £2,000 each year.  We do not qualify for any arts or government grants.

This year, due to the coronavirus, no productions are currently possible and are unlikely until at least spring 2021.  Social distancing rules even stop us rehearsing together.   However, to maintain our sanity, we have devised and written a full-length murder mystery play for ‘radio’ – well actually for download from our website, which will be free of charge to anyone who wishes to access it, giving something not only for our members, and their friends and family, but also to keep in touch with all those audiences that regularly support us and our local community.

We have recorded all the spoken parts, edited them together and added sound effects.  This is a new project for Shawbury Village Players, and not something that the group has done before, but we think you’ll like it and hope you find it entertaining for a couple of hours.

‘Murder at the Manor’ will be available for free download from our website after 1 October 2020, so it is free for anyone to listen to, but if you would like to make a contribution here to go towards our annual rent, all donations would be very much appreciated.
