<div>This morning my one-year-old golden retriever, Calvin, was attacked by my neighbors two large pitbulls that broke into our backyard. Calvin has been with us since he was just eight weeks old— he’s a big, goofy, loverboy who means the world to our family.

<div>This morning around 10am I let Calvin into our backyard to enjoy some sunshine and fresh air. Within 10 minutes I heard a commotion in the backyard and ran to the window, both pitbulls had him pinned to the ground on his back and were attacking him. Panicked I ran to the backyard screaming but couldn’t get them to get off of him. While I called 911, I sprinted to my neighbors house thinking he might be able to get his dogs under control. Despite his door being wide open and me screaming at the top of my lungs— he didn’t answer.

<div>I’m so grateful the Oklahoma City Police responded swiftly and helped me to get Calvin out. I was so certain he was dead.

<div>When the police finally questioned my neighbor he just shrugged and said, “So? I don’t care about that girl.” (Referring to me ) He had zero remorse.

<div>This isn’t the first time his dogs have threatened us. My children, ages 3 and 11, and I have lived in fear, chased onto our porch and unable to enjoy our own yard. Today, that fear became reality.

<div> Calvin suffered a deep laceration from his shoulder under his front leg, requiring a drain, and has puncture wounds all over his body. Thankfully, he’s expected to recover, but the trauma has left us shaken. We were able to crowdsource his emergency medical care, but now I’m faced with the urgent need to move my family to safety. As a single mom, I don’t feel safe letting my kids play outside, and I worry that one of them could be next. I plan to take action against our neighbor, but I’m afraid of retaliation, as he’s shown himself to be vindictive and uncaring.

<div> We need help covering the costs of moving—and ongoing medical care for Calvin. I just signed a new lease and a sudden move will be financially devastating— if not impossible.

<div>I’m so disturbed by what happened today, the violence, the helplessness, the lack of remorse— I no longer feel safe or like I can even go outside.
