Hello! My name is Blain Haskin. I started my musical education in 5th grade learning the cello. I played the cello and string bass through 9th grade. I began percussion in the 7th grade. Grades 8-9, I was in 2 music classes Band and Orchestra. In 10th grade, I learned to play the tenor drums and decided that was the instrument I wanted to excel at.
My best friend, Nike, and I have been in band together since 8th grade. He has been in percussion since 7th grade playing the bass drum. We have many great memories together through all of our years of performances and band competitions. We both were in Fall and Spring competition groups all 4 years of high school.
It was our dream to attend Fresno State and be in the Fresno State Bulldog Marching Band. It is our 3rd year on the Drumline and we are loving it! The comraderie of the band is amazing and to perform in front of thousands of fans in the Bulldog Football stadium is a true blessing (not to mention mind blowing.) This year we are additionally privileged to march with Fresno State Winter Percussion competition group "Red Wave Indoor." We're extremely lucky to be able to march together again in a group of such a high caliber. This season, Red Wave Indoor is going to be travelling to Dayton, Ohio for the WGI World Championships in mid-April. Since Red Wave is an extra-curricular group, financial obligations are the responsibilty of the students and not covered by tuition.
The expenses for Dayton include air fare, lodging, food, uniforms, and competion fees. All funds raised will be used toward paying for these expenses. Any excess of our goal will cover gas and food expenses of our weekend practice sessions that began this past October and will continue until the trip to Dayton. The financial obligation for the trip is around $1500 per person. As full time college students with a part time job, our finances are limited. We are seeking sponsorships through donations to help make our dreams a reality. The total goal asked is to help sponsor both of us.
I never imagined I'd be participating in a group at this level, and to do it with my best friend makes it all the more worth it. Any amount at all helps, and it means the world to Nike and I for your generosity! Thank you for reading!
