Help us kick start charity for cancer patients

Rage IV is a Charity Incorporated Organisation (CIO) that was founded by me, Danielle Hambridge on 27.06.21 – registered charity number 1196342.

The Rage IV mission is:

To enhance the mental and physical wellbeing of adult cancer patients in England by providing them with grants to access Gyms, exercise classes and sports facilities within one year of starting active treatment for their disease and for 12 months thereafter.

The charity has been set up off of the back of my own diagnosis for stage IV breast cancer in November 2018 at the age of 29. Whilst I was going through treatment I tried to maintain a good level of fitness by continuing to exercise even on the days when I had a large dose of chemotherapy running through my system. I was adamant that maintaining a healthy lifestyle helped keep my mind and body strong. Remarkably I have remained in remission for the past 2 years despite being given 6 months to live if I didn’t start treatment ASAP. I decided to set up Rage IV, to promote healthy, active living by encouraging other patients to keep moving as much as possible during active treatment.

Exercise isn’t one thing. There are various levels and everyone should go at their pace. This isn’t about putting pressure on cancer patients to move on the days when their body is telling them to rest. However, this charity provides them a way to access exercise on the days when they do want to get out there and get moving.

The cost of gym memberships and fitness clubs can average up to £2000 a year and more in some areas. If patients have to take reduced hours at work or leave employment altogether to focus on their health then this is something they just cannot afford. Rage IV takes away the financial burden from the cancer patient so they can enjoy the days they feel like being active and never feel guilty for wasting money on the days when they don’t feel like moving at all!
